Peachtree City Sign Reinhardt Midfielder Gus Fidler

The goal of every athlete across the globe is to establish a legacy. That goal can be accomplished in a number of different ways, but some of the most lasting legacies develop from family members who follow in each other’s footsteps. Whether it be Doc and Austin Rivers, Jürgen and Jonathan Klinsmann, or Peyton and Eli Manning, families always have the ability to write their names in the history books of their sport, and right here in Peachtree City one of those legacies has an opportunity to develop.

Gus Fidler - Midfielder - Reinhardt University

The brother of MOBA All-Time Leading Scorer Todd Fidler, Gus Fidler has some large shoes to fill with the yellow and black. Playing his high school soccer for McIntosh, Fidler starred with the Chiefs as a consistent scorer for one of the best programs in the state of Georgia. With his senior season in 2017 being arguably his most notable, Fidler guided the Chiefs to a 25-1-0 overall record en route to the school’s sixth boy’s state championship in a 2-1 win against Clarkson. Fidler had himself a stellar season that included a two-goal showing against Druid Hills for McIntosh’s thirteenth win. Following his graduation, Fidler committed to join his brother at Reinhardt University.

During his freshman season with the Eagles, Fidler made an immediate impact in the midfield. Playing in fourteen matches, starting three, Fidler took phenomenal advantage of his 253 season minutes, scoring four goals and recording three assists, finishing the season fifth on the team in points with eleven. Fidler’s most impressive performance of the season came early on in an away match against #17 Bryan College. After a scoreless first half, the Reinhardt defense broke down midway through the second half as they conceded twice in twenty minutes to go down 2-0 with just eleven minutes to play. Shortly before the second goal, head coach Joey Johnson decided to bring on Fidler to replace Matthew Gray in the midfield. Just three minutes after conceding the second goal, the Eagles’ Aaron Whitten was able to pull one back for Reinhardt, restoring life to a side that were desperate to keep up their winning form. With the final whistle drawing nearer, something needed to happen soon, and it was Gus Fidler who stepped in to save the day. In the eighty-eighth minute of the match, Fidler powered home a shot off a Whitten assist to equalize and send the match to overtime, but he was not done. After the first period of OT went by without a winner, the pressure rising on the Eagles to complete the comeback and steal victory, and once again it was Fidler to the rescue. Right before the mid-point of the second overtime period, Fidler got on the end of Kevin Sosa’s pass and sent it into the back of the net, the golden goal that propelled the Eagles to victory. Fidler followed up that spectacular outing with another two-goal showing in a 4-2 win against St. Andrews with his brother scoring the other two goals, securing Gus his first AAC Player of the Week Award. The Eagles finished the season 11-4-2, but were knocked out of the AAC Championships in the quarterfinals against Montreat College 2-1.

With his first collegiate season in the books, Fidler has already shown the potential he has to develop into a star, and he looks to bring his skillset to a whole new challenge with Peachtree City. With his brother Todd being a fan-favorite in Peachtree City, it will be interesting to see how Gus distinguishes himself from his brother and writes his own story with the club. Before him lies an opportunity to show the PDL he has the abiliy to make it as a professional, and all that remains is for him to take it. We’re all rooting for you, Gus.

2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. A team may work well together and share the ball, but there is always at least one player that truly stands out. And that player, more often than not, receives the Man of the Year award. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two. As a result of the two losses and results across the division, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Mississippi Brilla FC are running away with the division, and if MOBA want to get themselves back into the race, it will require an immediate turn around and some immediate success.
