MOBA Proud Player Spotlight: Jack Coulton

"Offense sells tickets, but defense wins championships." - Paul "Bear" Bryant (1913-1983)

Probably the most respected coach and leader of the 20th century, Paul Bryant led the University of Alabama football team to six national titles (1961, 64, 65, 73, 78, 79) behind one of the strongest defenses in the nation year after year. Offense sells tickets, but defense wins championships. Bryant epitomized that. Defense is the cornerstone to almost every dynasty, and Peachtree City MOBA began their dynasty preaching defense, featuring some of the top defenders in the league in Salomon Lorenzano and Adam Sheikali. But there was one defenseman who really built a name for himself among the fans, and that man is Jack Coulton.

Captain of the Reinhardt University men's association football team in Waleska, Georgia, the four-year All-AAC first-teamer features football experience from England and New Zealand, and also has three years of experience with Knoxville Force of the NPSL. #25 made his MOBA debut on May 17th, a 2-1 victory against Tri-Cities. Coulton, a fan-favorite in Peachtree City, made his impact on the defensive side, making a number of key stops inside and outside of the box, but was also a key part of the offensive strategy when needed. Jack was a crucial piece in securing MOBA's first victory over rival Tormenta FC, heading the defense, alongside Lorenzano, over the final 23 minutes after Iain Smith's goal and keeping Nico Rittmeyer and Tormenta out of the net and securing the 1-0 victory.
Coulton's 2016 season was not all perfect, however. During MOBA's match against the Southern West Virginia King's Warriors, Coulton went down with an apparent leg injury and left the game after the first half. He was later seen on the bench with his legs wrapped and in practice gear. Jack would start and play all 90 minutes against SC United and Mississippi Brilla FC, but Coulton called an end to his season after re-injuring his leg, and he sat out the final two games. Jack was 1 of 2 MOBA players to go down with a season-ending injury, the first being goalkeeper Jeremy Booth who called it quits before MOBA came home for the first time after he suffered a serious injury.

Despite adversity from injury, Coulton gave 110% to the team every match, even coming out to support as MOBA drew with Tormenta 3-3 at home. Jack was one of the most #MOBAProud members of the team, vocalizing his admiration of his teammates on several occasions on Instagram. He embraced the city of Peachtree City, and Peachtree City returned the affection. Fans can only hope to see Coulton wearing the yellow and black in 2017 at the new MOBA Soccer Stadium, hopefully leading the team to their first ever playoff bid.
