Well, it is all for pride now. Following MOBA's loss to Birmingham on Saturday in the most hectic game of the season, Peachtree City are officially eliminated from playoff contention. While it hurts to be out of the running, MOBA still have a chance to finish their most successful season in club history on a high and set the club record for wins in a season on Tuesday against Tri-Cities. With three matches remaining, it will be interesting to see how MOBA finish. Playoffs were always a bit of a stretch, and with South Georgia clinching the division a few days ago, it became even more difficult. MOBA were still alive heading into Birmingham, but they needed wins, and they needed help. While things got off to a decent start in Alabama, two mistakes in quick succession resulted in MOBA going down 2-0 at the half. With just four matches remaining in the 2018 regular season, time is running short to make a run for the top of the table. Peachtree City have taken some advantage of their last few matches, picking up five of a possible nine points on the back of a club-record three match unbeaten streak, and following their draw with second-place Mississippi Brilla FC, Peachtree City now take a brief trip west to Birmingham for a battle with a sliding Birmingham Hammers side. After jumping out to a very quick 1-0 lead against visiting Mississippi Brilla FC on Thursday, MOBA looked solid all around during the first half of the season's most physical match. The second half saw Brilla equalize with an absolute rocket from Gerber Chavez, and as time burned by, no winner looked imminent as fouls continued to pile up and prevent either side from gaining any momentum. It wasn't the result anybody really wanted, nor what the team needed, and it certainly makes things more difficult going forward, but it was a bit historic nonetheless. Coming off a win and a draw against Memphis City FC, MOBA really needed a win to keep playoff aspirations in reach. A draw would not make the playoffs impossible, but it certainly was not going to help. Going up against Mississippi, however, was no easy task, as they rode a six-match unbeaten streak and four-match winning streak into the meeting, but Peachtree City were determined to get something from the game. Things got off to a dream start for MOBA in the rain, as just two minutes into the match, Rashid Alarape found John Cozine with a great ball inside the eighteen, and Cozine coolly buried the shot to give MOBA the lead on the fastest goal in club history. Peachtree City need to keep winning. It is as simple as that. If MOBA can keep getting three points every time out for the rest of the season, they will be sitting on twenty-seven points, which could see them into the playoffs. That task, however, will meet its first real test on Thursday, when Peachtree City welcome a red-hot Mississippi Brilla FC side into the suburbs. With back-to-back matches against the last place team in the division last week, Peachtree City were not able to capitalize completely on the opportunity they had before them, but they did get some important results nonetheless. After conceding a goal to Memphis that nullified John Cozine opener, MOBA came right back and grabbed another late in the first half, this time from Morgan Hackworth, and the Yellow and Black were able to hold on for the 2-1 win. After slipping in back-to-back matches to close their road stretch at 2-2-0, Peachtree City found themselves slipping down the table and out of the playoff race. If they wanted to turn the season around and get back into the hunt, MOBA needed to take advantage of this two-match set with Memphis City FC, who are last in the division, and MOBA had beaten twice earlier in the season. With the first meeting on Thursday, Peachtree City did just that. Knowing what was at stake going up against a team that has already been eliminated from the playoff hunt, the opening minutes of the game went pretty heavily in favor of the home side, as MOBA were controlling possession, and it was Jerren Nixon who had the first shot of the night, but it was deflected and sent just over the cross bar. After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two. As a result of the two losses and results across the division, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Mississippi Brilla FC are running away with the division, and if MOBA want to get themselves back into the race, it will require an immediate turn around and some immediate success. Thankfully, Peachtree City have back-to-back home fixtures against the perfect team. A common theme throughout Peachtree City's most recent loss to the Tri-Cities Otters was disorganization. All ten of the field players seemed to be on completely different pages, and it cost them dearly. Following what I thought was a promising start at 2-1-2, hopes that MOBA will even sniff the playoffs are quickly being shattered. Following back-to-back wins, it is becoming obvious why those wins happened. Memphis City FC are without question the worst team in the division, if not in the entire Southern Conference. It is shocking that they were able to draw with Mississippi Brilla FC early in the season with the little talent that they have, but they have done nothing but lose since. After a very strong 2-1-2, Peachtree City MOBA stumbled on their own feet in Statesboro on Wednesday when they fell to their in-state rivals South Georgia Tormenta FC 2-0 in the final regular season installment of the Georgia Clásico before Tormenta enter the professional ranks. While the season is far from over, that loss really hurt MOBA's chances at the division title, given that Tormenta are unbeaten thus far. That does not mean the playoffs are out of the picture, however, as there is still a lot to fight for, but Peachtree City need to bounce back immediately. Now sitting at 2-2-2, MOBA are fifth in the division, only one point back of third-place SC United, but eight points back of Tormenta in second. The season is not over, and if MOBA can get back on a hot streak, they could be battling for a playoff spot come July. Entering the derby, MOBA is hoping to build off their two consecutive wins against Memphis City FC to extend their winning streak and climb the table past the Birmingham Hammers. After five games into the season, MOBA sits in fourth place in the Deep South Division of the Southern Conference with a record of 2-1-2 and eight points. The Yellow and Black are currently having their best start to a PDL season and sit in fourth place, only behind third placed Birmingham Hammers because of goal difference. MOBA has shown that they have the potential to achieve great things on the pitch and the fans will be hoping they can continue in their good vein of form against Tormenta. Well, this is certainly uncharted territory for Peachtree City MOBA. Following abysmal starts to both 2016 and 2017, Peachtree City find themselves leaps and bounds ahead of where they were following the first third of the 2018 season. The offense is playing great, the defense is coming together, the midfield is as strong as it has ever been, and Omar Jarun has officially made this club into a threat within their division. There is still a lot of soccer left to be played this season, but one can only expect Peachtree City to continue to build off of this strong opening to the season. After a 1-4-0 start to 2016 and a 0-4-1 start to 2017, Peachtree City have come out of the gates hot, boasting a 2-1-2 record on the back of a division-high thirteen goals scored. There were questions early on about whether or not this is the best MOBA team we have ever seen. Despite what looked like a good sign with two draws to start the season, a 4-2 home loss to SC United kept the optimism in check. With things finally seeming to be going in Peachtree City's favor through two matches, a humbling 4-2 loss at the hands of the Bantams showed the holes that need fixing in this rebuilt MOBA side. The season is far from over, and back-to-back matches against last-place Memphis City FC may be the perfect way to get the ball rolling. Overall, MOBA are leaps and bounds ahead of where they were at this point last season, and they have the potential to make a climb up the division table and threaten the top spot. That all depends on how they handle this last loss, however, as any lingering on the dropped points will only grow to harm their chances going forward. Soccer matches are ninety minutes, and if things are close as the end draws near, it is of the utmost importance that the energy level remain equal to or greater than your opponent's. While MOBA have consistently been in and even led the matches they have played in 2018, that one fact has made all the difference. Following back-to-back blown 2-1 leads in their first two games, Peachtree City once again found themselves on the wrong end of a late rally. With the rain coming down hard for the entirety of the first half, it was without question that the match was not going to be pretty. For the duration of the opening forty-five, mistakes were running rampant on the Peachtree City side of the ball, and the Bantams capitalized well. In the eleventh minute, Liam Ireland cleverly flicked in a free kick to give the visitors the lead, and Peachtree City found themselves in an early hole. In their third season of Premier Development League play, Peachtree City MOBA have gotten off to a very solid start with back-to-back 2-2 draws against South Georgia Tormenta FC and Birmingham Hammers. While they may not be the greatest results, both matches have shown Peachtree City's vast improvement since last season under new manager Omar Jarun. Everything seems to be clicking for the Yellow and Black early on, and if the small mistakes can get worked out, this club could be unstoppable. Led by captain Jerry Wiltshire, the size and speed of the back four has really been unmatched to this point. Tormenta scored their first goal off a brilliant run from Nick Wells that committed too many defenders by the end of it, and Wells found Cadu Cusatis is the box for what looked to be a simple goal. At long last, Peachtree City are showing signs of success, signs that they can compete and that they can win, only to have all of that snatched away at the death. After a 2-2 draw in their opening match with South Georgia, MOBA were craving a win, but that satisfaction will have to wait at least three more days. In the opening minutes, it was Birmingham who were dominating possession, as they saw a number of chances early, but nothing seemed to be working against a much-improved MOBA defense. After the first quarter of an hour, things quickly began to shift in favor of the home side, as Dean Foster and Kai Bennett saw some chances fly wide or get saved. The momentum continued to go back and forth with neither side able to break the other, and the minutes continued to tick toward halftime. In just four days, history will be made at MOBA Soccer Academy as manager Campbell Chapman leads the Peachtree City MOBA WPSL side into their inaugural season. Following the incredible success of the youth club and growth of the PDL side, the MOBA women's team will cap off the pyramid of development that owner Volker Harms has looked to create in Peachtree City. The Women's Premier Soccer League is the largest women's league in the United States, fielding over 100 clubs across the country and in Canada. Ahead of their inaugural season, a number of great signings have been made of well-developed, talented athletes from across the country that are looking to make an immediate impact out on the pitch. Some of the most notable names include Emma Carlson from Duke, Charlotte McCormack from Clayton State, and Abby Ott from Furman. A few clubs have already begun play over the last week, but the Deep South Division kicks off its debut season on May 12th when Peachtree City MOBA host South Georgia Tormenta FC in the final Peachtree City hosted Clásico before Tormenta turn professional. The matches between these two clubs over the last two seasons have always been exciting (if not a little violent), with yellow cards flying in both stadiums. Tormenta lead the all-time series between the two clubs 2-2-1, including wins in the last two matchups, but there is no reason to believe that MOBA can't turn those fortunes around and get into the win column early on.
