Peachtree City Sign Former Clayton State Goalkeeper Charlotte McCormack

The goalkeeper position is arguably the most vital position in the world of football. The final line of defense between the opposition and goals is the keeper, and it is far from an easy task. Some of the world's greatest footballers are goalkeepers, most notably the likes of Gianluigi Buffon, Hope Solo, and David de Gea. Only the most composed can make it in the harsh world of goalkeeping, and the MOBA WPSL club's latest signing has shown she has the ability to be successful.

Charlotte McCormack - Goalkeeper - Clayton State University

A native of Wexford, Ireland, Charlotte McCormack played her youth soccer locally in Ireland, working her way up the system until she made her professional debut with Wexford Youths W.F.C. in the first season of the Irish Women's National League in 2011. Following the season, McCormack moved to the United States and enrolled at Clayton State University, where she first showed her goal-keeping prowess to the States. Her freshman season was mostly developmental, as she played just five matches on the year as the Lakers tallied ten wins, but following the 2012 season, McCormack took over the starting job, and the rest is history.

2013 saw the Lakers return to prominence in women's soccer, as the club went 12-4-6 on the season, winning both the Peach Belt Conference Regular Season Title as well as the PBC Tournament, qualifying Clayton State for their third ever NCAA Tournament. Statistically, McCormack starred between the posts, picking up eight clean sheets on a 1.10 goals allowed average in a team record 2,218 minutes. Despite such a stellar season, 2014 was even better for the Irish goalkeeper, as the Lakers went 13-7 with McCormack playing in eighteen matches. During her time, she recorded an outstanding 0.84 GAA, an 81.8 save percentage, and eight clean sheets. Her senior season simply fell victim to high expectations and a loss of players, as the Lakers went 8-8-1 with McCormack recording three more clean sheets. Overall, McCormack went down as one of the greatest to ever play soccer for Clayton State, as she finished her career 34-17-7 with a 1.11 GAA and a 78.1 save percentage and twenty clean sheets, second in school history. She was selected to the All-PBC Second Team twice and was a five-time PBC Goalkeeper of the Week. In 2015, Charlotte's achievements were recognized by her home country, as she was called up to represent Ireland in a friendly against the United States in San Jose.

Following her graduation, McCormack was brought in to mentor the Lakers' goalkeepers for the 2016 season before entering the world of coaching with the Rockdale Youth Soccer Association. McCormack left Rockdale to become a goalkeepers coach for the Olympic Development Program U11 girls team and also served as head coach for the JV girls team at the Atlanta International School. In the summer of 2017, McCormack was hired at her alma mater to become a graduate assistant coach for the womens team.

A goalkeeper who has already shown her ability to play, Charlotte McCormack is the perfect player for MOBA to put between the sticks in their inaugural season. A born and bred keeper, McCormack's prowess both as a player and as a coach will do wonders to benefit the club heading into their first season, as they will need a leader if they want to win. There are still a lot of spots to fill, but manager Campbell Chapman has already made a couple of great strides ahead of May 20th.

2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two.
