Young Blood: Analyzing MOBA's Latest Signings - Daniel Shaw

The 2017 Peachtree City MOBA pre-season is just ten days away, and they continue to announce great talent that will join the squad for the new campaign. Prior to taking on Georgia Revolution FC at North Mountain Carmel Soccer Park on April 29th, adding scorers and creators will be crucial to the success of the team, and with their latest addition, MOBA seems to have found potential.

Daniel Shaw - Berry College

The midfield in soccer is one of the most important spots on the pitch. Covering every end of the field, from end line to end line, the midfielders play two separate roles at the same time: stopping the opponent's attack and starting yours. Daniel Shaw, out of Berry College, has a knack to do both. A multi-sport talent at Christ School in Adren, North Carolina, Shaw starred in soccer as well as track, lacrosse, and basketball. During his high school soccer career, the team captain received a number of accolades including two NCISAA All-State selections, All-Conference selections, and an MVP award. The school saw great success during Shaw's tenure, including their first ever state playoff win. Academically, Shaw made the honor roll, as well as being a member of the National Honor Society and was president of the Rotary Club.

In college, Shaw steadily became a leader on the Vikings team. As a freshman, he played in just seven games and scored one goal, but that role would increase over the next few years. During his sophomore year, he appeared in nineteen games, starting seven, and scored two goals with one assist. The Vikings won the SAA that year, and qualified for the NCAA tournament. In 2015, as a junior, Shaw continued his growth, playing in all seventeen of the team's games and starting eleven. He scored a further three goals that year as well as two assists while earning his first SAA Honorable Mention. His senior year, his most successful, saw Shaw take over as a leader. Starting in sixteen of the team's seventeen games, Daniel scored five goals with a further two assists out of the midfield as the Vikings went 10-9 on the year. Shaw didn't just help offensively, however, as Berry only gave up twenty goals on the year, including five shutouts, compared to their thirty-four. The Vikings had two different stretches of three straight wins, as well as a 7-0 road win at Huntingdon, making it to the SAA semi-finals before falling to Millsaps at a neutral venue. Following the season, Shaw was named to the SAA All-Tournament Team and All-SAA Second Team.

Coming into the new year, Shaw will look to make his mark in the PDL in the eleven-team, highly competitive South Atlantic Division. Joining Todd Fidler and Jackson Morse in the middle, the MOBA coaching staff is building a lineup that can both score goals and keep the opposition out of the net. During the 2017 campaign, MOBA will only play one team who made the PDL Playoffs last year, as well as one expansion club, and if Peachtree City can take advantage of the talent they have on their roster, they are sure to make a run at the division title.

2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two. As a result of the two losses and results across the division, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Mississippi Brilla FC are running away with the division, and if MOBA want to get themselves back into the race, it will require an immediate turn around and some immediate success.
