MOBA Proud Player Spotlight: Omar Jarun

One of the things that people love most about association football is that players want to play at home. Unlike American football and basketball, where the players want to play where the money is (*cough* Kevin Durant *cough*), a majority of fútbol players want to play in familiar surroundings. Omar Jarun is no different.

Born in Kuwait City, Kuwait to an American mother and Jordanian father, Jarun moved to the United States before the First Gulf War in 1990, after bombs went off and missiles were fired near their home. Upon immigrating, Jarun was raised in Peachtree City.

After his collegiate career at Memphis and Dayton, Jarun went on to play for the Fort Wayne Fever of the PDL in 2004 (the team dissolved in 2009). After a short stint with the Chicago Fire Premier, Omar came back to Georgia to play for the Atlanta Silverbacks of the NPSL from 2006-07, appearing in 45 games and scoring one goal. Jarun went on to play for eight more clubs in seven years, and played for the Palestinian National Team from 2007-14, even participating in World Cup Qualifying, but in 2015, he announced his retirement from professional football.

Jarun returned to Peachtree City, and began giving soccer lessons to the youth of the area. On April 14, 2016, it was announced on the club Facebook page that Omar had signed with Peachtree City MOBA, and would become a focal point of their offensive and defensive strategy, along with giving the younger players some veteran assistance.

A defender in the past, Jarun took on the role of striker for the 2016 season. He appeared in 8 matches and totaled 524 minutes, and lead the team with three goals, all of which came in the two-game sweep of the Tri-Cities Otters, including the first ever home goal in MOBA history. Jarun was a vocal leader of the squad, giving them support on the field and on the bench. The homegrown player truly was the leader of the offense, and the rest of the team followed in his footsteps, as he epitomized the ideas of unselfishness and teamwork, helping spread the goal love throughout the team, resulting in 11 different players getting on the score sheet in 14 games, and only three had more than 1 goal (Jarun, Mashingaidze (2), and Fidler(2)).

Jarun was MOBA Proud the entire season, and the fans of MOBA can only hope that he will return next season and remain the veteran leader, whether it be as a player, or in a coaching role.

2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. A team may work well together and share the ball, but there is always at least one player that truly stands out. And that player, more often than not, receives the Man of the Year award. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two. As a result of the two losses and results across the division, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Mississippi Brilla FC are running away with the division, and if MOBA want to get themselves back into the race, it will require an immediate turn around and some immediate success.
