Fidler Nets 2, Rivalry Strengthened as MOBA - Tormenta Tie 3-3

People love sports. One of the best things about sports is rivalry. The grit and grind showed when two bitter rivals face off is amazing to watch, and always makes for a good game. People love to watch the Celtics and Hawks play after the historic runs both teams had back in the 50's and 60's. Everybody loves a good Eagles - Steelers game, and one of the newest rivalries is the one built between in-state opponents Peachtree City MOBA and South Georgia Tormenta FC. The two teams were introduced this season, and nobody expected much, except that a rivalry would form between the two. And that it did. The two teams faced off in early June 2016, and six yellow cards were distributed throughout a physical match that was ultimately won by MOBA, 1-0. This time, the game moved to MOBA's turf, as the struggling Peachtree City team looked for a redemption game against the hot Tormenta. The matchup proved interesting as MOBA came out looking to press, and Tormenta seemed to have no answer. The home team broke through in the 31st minute, as Nick Spielman scored off a Jordan Day corner and an incredible header. MOBA was confident going into the break, but that would not last. As the physicality continued, Tormenta found their answer as Eli Dent scored the equalizer in the 66th minute. A tie seemed almost inevitable, but new-comer Todd Fidler wanted to make his presence known. A shot was parried by Alex Guerra, the Tormenta goalkeeper, but Fidler swooped in to nail the ball into the back of the net and take a 2-1 lead in the 69th minute. MOBA seemed confident, but Tormenta struck back in the 77' as Jeremy Rector scored off a header to knot the game at 2. Obviously, Todd Fidler wouldn't settle for a 2-2 tie, so after a Tormenta goal was called off because of offside (the second such call in the game for the away team), Taku Mashingaidze passed the ball up to Fidler, who struck the ball into the upper-left corner of the net from 30+ yards out. Fidler's second goal of the night ties him for 2nd on the team scoring list with Mashingaidze at 2-a-piece, only behind Omar Jarun with 3. After the excitement faded, and the game restarted, a 3-2 finish looked almost guaranteed, but in the 90th minute, Tormenta found another answer, and the winner just never came. After all of the unpredictable scoring and energy, the game ended in a 3-3 tie. The game was physical the whole way through, but no clear victor could be found. Both teams were awarded 1 point, leaving MOBA in a tie with the West Virginia Chaos for 6th place in the division at 11 points, and Tormenta are now tied with the Southern West Virginia King's Warriors in 4th place at 20 points, and are looking at a must-win game against the SC United Bantams on Friday night in Greenwood, South Carolina. MOBA finished the head-to-head season with Tormenta on top, getting four points out of the two games.

Next Game: July 16, 2016  against the Carolina Dynamo @ 7 PM @ Lander Soccer Complex (Season Finale) #MOBAProud
