Match Preview: MOBA Search for Redemption Against Tri-Cities

Well, it is all for pride now. Following MOBA's loss to Birmingham on Saturday in the most hectic game of the season, Peachtree City are officially eliminated from playoff contention. While it hurts to be out of the running, MOBA still have a chance to finish their most successful season in club history on a high and set the club record for wins in a season on Tuesday against Tri-Cities. With three matches remaining, it will be interesting to see how MOBA finish.

Playoffs were always a bit of a stretch, and with South Georgia clinching the division a few days ago, it became even more difficult. MOBA were still alive heading into Birmingham, but they needed wins, and they needed help. While things got off to a decent start in Alabama, two mistakes in quick succession resulted in MOBA going down 2-0 at the half. The second half was very quiet until stoppage time, when all of the sudden things got very interesting. MOBA won a penalty that Artur De Luca buried to make it 2-1, but Birmingham seemed to put the game away with Sutton Shults' goal two minutes later. MOBA kept fighting, and De Luca was rewarded with a second goal four minutes into injury time, but it was not enough as MOBA fell to Birmingham for the first time. While the loss will hurt, the season is not over, and Peachtree City have a chance to make something positive out of these remaining matches. It won't be easy, however, as MOBA go up against a Tri-Cities side that defeated MOBA early in the season before hitting the road to face Mississippi Brilla FC, who will be battling for a playoff spot come season's end.

Like MOBA, the Otters have also been eliminated from playoff contention, but that doesn't mean this match isn't worth watching. Peachtree City and Tri-Cities have really developed quite a rivalry, and that is not expected to change even if both sides aren't fighting to keep their seasons alive. MOBA center-back Artur De Luca has really been a surprise to this point, as his quiet four goals on the season are tied for most on the team. To have that kind of attack coming from your central defender is a weapon that should be utilized against a poor Otters defense. Despite the poor defending, the Otters do have a very potent attack, as Guillermo Segovia's eight goals rank fifth in the league. This battle between the two best offenses in the bottom half of the table should be exciting.

Keys to Success:

  • Attack Through Everybody: At this point, what is there to lose? Utilize all ten men, press forward, and get some goals. The attacking talent that MOBA has up front, as well as the secret weapons in the back, should be plenty to get two, three, or four goals on the night, and if they are used correctly, the Otters shouldn't be able to stop it.
  • Play Smart: While it is in MOBA's best interest to attack, the defense has to stand tall for the full ninety. Give Segovia too many opportunities, and he will make Peachtree City pay like he did in the season's previous matchup. Keep the line, and keep the ball away from Segovia.

2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two.
