Match Preview: Peachtree City Search for Back-to-Back Wins Against Memphis

There were questions early on about whether or not this is the best MOBA team we have ever seen. Despite what looked like a good sign with two draws to start the season, a 4-2 home loss to SC United kept the optimism in check. Heading into Memphis, Peachtree City were looking to bounce back and prove that they are a threat to Tormenta FC and Mississippi Brilla FC at the top of the division, something this club has not been in their history. Needless to say, the questions have been asked, and the answers have arrived, and now Peachtree City has every reason to be excited about what is to come.

The match between Memphis and Peachtree City got off to a fast start at Christian Brothers University, as Memphis jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on the back of Gideon Leteyian's goal before Peachtree City would equalize with a goal from Artur De Luca in his debut. Memphis then retook the lead when Sean Rutter side-stepped Konrad Dziedzic and scored in the empty net, however John Cozine equalized for MOBA with a beautiful diving header just minutes later. Peachtree City added a third just before the forty-minute mark when Dean Foster scored his third goal of the season with a stunning fifteen-yard rocket, sending the visitor's into the break up 3-2. Memphis City equalized again shortly after the half with Jermaine Steele's goal, however it was De Luca who was the hero for Peachtree City when he scored his second goal of the match late from the penalty spot that won Peachtree City MOBA their first league match since June 27th, 2017. Sure, it was crazy and back-and-forth for the entire match, but at the end of ninety minutes, three points are three points no matter how they come, and they will do wonders with boosting the confidence of this team heading into the rematch on Saturday. With the win, it is now undisputed that this is the best MOBA team we have ever seen, and proof of that is listed below.

A lot of those milestones have been the result of coaching, as the MOBA coaching staff in 2018 is the most experienced and stable it has ever been. Under Omar Jarun, this team is flourishing, and they are on their way up. They are just two points back of first-place Tormenta FC (Tormenta have played one less match), and they lead the division in scoring with ten goals. South Georgia don't play again until Tuesday when they face fifth-place SC United on the road, but second-place Mississippi Brilla FC travel to face fourth-place Birmingham Hammers Saturday night. Saturday also sees SC United facing sixth-place Tri-Cities Otters FC at home. Saturday could have major implications on the division table, as there could be a lot of changes coming at the end of the night. The best result for Peachtree City comes if they win their match against Memphis, which would give them eight points on the season. If Brilla then lose against Birmingham, Peachtree City would be alone at the top of the table. If Brilla draw, they would be tied with MOBA for first. If Brilla win, Peachtree City would be second, still leap-frogging Tormenta FC who have two games in hand, both of which will be played before the two clubs meet on June 13th. All of that is great, but none of it happens unless Peachtree City win.

Keys to Success:

  • Feed Off the Win: Winning is great, and it can do a world of good if channeled correctly. If not, things will go downhill quickly. It boils down to this: Let the win get the best out of you, not the best of you. Play your game, set the pace to where you want it to be, and the goals will come like they did on Thursday.
  • Defend: There are a lot of positives about this team, but one thing that needs to get figured out is the defense. Eleven goals in four matches is not where you need to be, and that has to be fixed. MOBA have plenty of talent and depth in the back, not to mention a coach who was a career defender, so there really is no excuse for poor defensive performances. Let this match be the spring that propels this defense to success, because that is the only way to get wins against clubs like Tormenta.
Kickoff for Peachtree City MOBA vs. Memphis City FC is scheduled for June 2nd at 8:00 PM at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee. There is not expected to be a livestream for the match.

2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. A team may work well together and share the ball, but there is always at least one player that truly stands out. And that player, more often than not, receives the Man of the Year award. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two. As a result of the two losses and results across the division, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Mississippi Brilla FC are running away with the division, and if MOBA want to get themselves back into the race, it will require an immediate turn around and some immediate success. Thankfully, Peachtree City have back-to-back home fixtures against the perfect team. A common theme throughout Peachtree City's most recent loss to the Tri-Cities Otters was disorganization. All ten of the field players seemed to be on completely different pages, and it cost them dearly.
