MOBA at the Collegiate Level: 3rd Edition

College soccer is now in full-swing, and spoiler alert: Peachtree City MOBA players are playing really well. All around the United States, from Atlanta to Hawai'i, MOBA players are making a name for themselves and proving they can play with the best of them.

Clayton State: MOBA Playground

Okay, there is no way the nets at Clayton State are regulation size. After just seven matches, Iain Smith, Ryan King, and Bilal Nakhli are responsible for nine of the eleven total goals scored by the Lakers this season. After King came out of the gates hot, scoring a hat trick against Barry, Nakhli put his name in the books by grabbing Clayton State's only goal against Eckerd in a 4-1 loss. Smith then looked to get a piece of the action and led the Lakers to their first win of the year against Auburn Montgomery by scoring two goals and assisting on the other in a dominant 3-1 victory. Sitting at 1-6 on the year, the schedule-makers didn't do the Lakers any favors, as they face Erskine (4-1) on October 5th, followed by #9 Wingate at home.

#MOBAProud MOTY rolling at GSU

Salomon Lorenzano, the reigning Man of the Year for MOBA, was one of six MOBA players to watch in college back in July. After a somewhat rough start, he finally got it rolling. Lorenzano had a strong game against UNC Asheville on the road, picking up his first goal and assist, leading Georgia State to their first road victory of the season in a 104-minute thriller. Teammate Nick Hague picked up two more shots to bring his total to ten along with one assist.

Hein starts season off right at BYU-Hawai'i

All the way across the United States, the MOBA effect can be visibly noticed. Jessey Hein, a dynamic forward for head coach Jordan Davis in Peachtree City, kicked off his Seasiders career right, scoring BYU-Hawai'i's only goal against Simon Fraser, an equalizer in the 86th minute, that was overshadowed by Michael North's winner in the 90th that secured a 2-1 victory for Simon Fraser. Despite picking up a loss at home, the Seasiders marched into the Academy of Art and dominated the game 5-0. Sitting at 2-2-1 on the year, look to see Hein get even more involved in the offense as the freshman looks to build a name for himself in the Aloha State.

Mashingaidze continues to dominate at GMC

The quick-footed sophomore out of Essex, England continues to make his presence known at Georgia Military College. Mashingaidze made an immediate impact, scoring a goal and tallying three assists through just four games. Ten matches have now been completed, and Taku has just continued his great start. Notching two goals against USC Salkehatchie, and one goal against Spartanburg Methodist, the 4-4 Bulldogs look to continue utilizing Taku's talents for the games to come.

Choi trying to make the most out of Opportunities

Playing a limited role in head coach Mark McKeever's offense, sophomore Sam Choi is looking to make the most out of the chances he gets off the bench. An athletic midfielder for MOBA coach Jordan Davis, Choi has tallied one assist this season at Young Harris College in just 148 minutes. Sam looks to try and do what he can in the remaining games to get his name onto the score sheet again, with upcoming games against North Georgia and USC Aiken, along with a matchup against MOBA teammates Ryan King, Iain Smith, and Bilal Nakhli as the Mountain Lions battle Clayton State at home on October 19th.

2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. A team may work well together and share the ball, but there is always at least one player that truly stands out. And that player, more often than not, receives the Man of the Year award. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two. As a result of the two losses and results across the division, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Mississippi Brilla FC are running away with the division, and if MOBA want to get themselves back into the race, it will require an immediate turn around and some immediate success. Thankfully, Peachtree City have back-to-back home fixtures against the perfect team. A common theme throughout Peachtree City's most recent loss to the Tri-Cities Otters was disorganization.
