MOBA at the Collegiate Level: 2nd Edition

Week two of NCAA soccer comes to a close, and with that, everything is beginning to take form. The best teams are racking up the wins, and the worst are, well, not having the best time. Player success, however, is not based on wins and losses, but how well each individual player performs in the heat of the moment. MOBA players have seen success so far this season, and this week we take a look at some of the big stories featuring members of the 2016 Peachtree City squad, including both dominance, and heartbreak.

King, Smith, Nakhli take the Lake

Clayton State is one of two schools that features multiple talents off the MOBA squad, along with Georgia State. Despite sitting at 0-3, including a tough 2-0 loss to #5 Palm Beach Atlantic, MOBA players Ryan King, Iain Smith, and Bilal Nakhli are off to strong starts. All three players played in the first three games, and Smith and King are responsible for all four Laker goals this year, including Ryan King's hat trick against Barry. Smith has also picked up an assist, and Nakhli is one of the most used players on the team with 233 minutes.. Clayton State looks to finally get off the ground and bring an end to their defensive struggles as they continue their Florida road trip at Eckerd.

Spielman Down for the Count

The East Tennessee State Bucs are a different story. After four games, the Bucs sit at 2-2, including strong home wins against George Mason and Appalachian State. However, the story with Bucs and MOBA midfielder Nick Spielman is not quite as pleasant. After starting in the first three games and racking up 225 minutes, Spielman went down with a broken foot, and is now out for several weeks. A key member of the defensive strategy for head coach Jordan Davis in Peachtree City, Spielman's presence will be missed in Johnson City, as the Bucs have a rough upcoming schedule, including a road game against #1 North Carolina.

Hein leads BYU-Hawai'i into the New Year

Being in the second division of NCAA soccer, the BYU-Hawai'i Seasiders begin their new season Saturday at home against Hawai'i Pacific. Hein, a standout player in Peachtree City, helped lead MOBA to their first ever home win, scoring a late stoppage time goal against Tri-Cities. Now, Jessey looks to lead the Seasiders to a successful campaign, as he gets his first taste of  PacWest soccer. A conference championship contender, coach Dan Dümmar  believes the chemistry of the returners and recruits can work to the advantage of the 8th ranked Seasiders.

In January 2015, it was announced that the German company MOBA Mobile Automation AG would be meeting with Peachtree City to discuss plans to build a new 50,000 square foot office building and soccer complex on Highway 74. A strange combination of projects, several months later, the project was approved, and construction began almost immediately. In a mere few months, it became arguably one of the best decisions the board has ever made. Fast forward to December 2016, the new MOBA Soccer Academy is nearing completion, and already the effect it was intended to have on Peachtree City sports is being felt. 2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. A team may work well together and share the ball, but there is always at least one player that truly stands out. And that player, more often than not, receives the Man of the Year award. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two. As a result of the two losses and results across the division, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Mississippi Brilla FC are running away with the division, and if MOBA want to get themselves back into the race, it will require an immediate turn around and some immediate success. Thankfully, Peachtree City have back-to-back home fixtures against the perfect team. A common theme throughout Peachtree City's most recent loss to the Tri-Cities Otters was disorganization. All ten of the field players seemed to be on completely different pages, and it cost them dearly.
