MOBA at the Collegiate Level: 1st Edition

As the first week of division 1 NCAA soccer comes to an end, the nerves are beginning to pass and the grind is beginning to set in. Stat sheets are beginning to fill up, the records are building, and the preseason polls are being proven incorrect. Every player looks to make the impact that puts their name in the history books, and Peachtree City MOBA players are no different. After a solid first season in the PDL, the relationship amongst teammates and opponents grows stronger, and now we turn our heads to the college pitches featuring some of the #MOBAProud men and the notable impacts they have made.

Taku Mashingaidze: GMC Multi-talent

Due to being in the NJCAA, Georgia Military College began their season earlier than most schools, so the impact from Taku can be proven more through statistics. After three games, GMC sits at 2-1 including back-to-back blowout wins at Thomas University and at home against Oxford College of Emory University, 6-0 and 7-0, respectively. Starting in all three games, Mashingaidze has made his presence known, with a goal and three assists to his name. Taku was a Swiss army knife of talent for Peachtree City MOBA, proving he could score and assist when needed, but also could get back and defend the net, and he looks to continue that prowess as the GMC season carries onward.

Todd Fidler: Making an Immediate Impact

Fidler made a huge impact in his first game with Peachtree City MOBA, scoring two of Peachtree City's three goals in a 3-3 tie against Tormenta, and he finished the season ranked second on the squad in scoring only behind Omar Jarun after playing just two matches. Todd made his presence felt with MOBA, and he went into the 2016 college season hoping to do the same with Reinhardt University. So far, he's doing just that. The Eagles came out of the gates strong, knocking off Freed-Hardeman 8-1 and Middle Georgia State 3-1. Fidler started both games, and tallied one of the eight goals in the opener. A talented player with a well-developed skill set for head coach Joey Johnson, Fidler is definitely a player MOBA would love to have back next season, but this time for the whole summer.

Jordan Day: A Nighthawk Soaring Early

Sharing the ball was a high priority for Coach Jordan Davis and Peachtree City MOBA, and Jordan Day, along with Bryson Asher, was one of the best at it. Day ended the 2016 campaign tied with Asher for the assist lead on the team, and made it a priority to get his teammates the ball when it mattered. Day was also a preferred option for MOBA on set-pieces, and as he headed to the University of  North Georgia, Day looked to continue his impact. Despite a rough opener where the Nighthawks fell down early, Jordan showed his potential for the team as he found the back of the net off of a 25-yard free kick in the 60th minute, knotting the game at 2. The Nighthawks would eventually fall 4-2, but Day showed that he still has the prowess on the set-piece that he demonstrated in the PDL.

In a mere few months, it became arguably one of the best decisions the board has ever made. Fast forward to December 2016, the new MOBA Soccer Academy is nearing completion, and already the effect it was intended to have on Peachtree City sports is being felt. 2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. A team may work well together and share the ball, but there is always at least one player that truly stands out. And that player, more often than not, receives the Man of the Year award. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two. As a result of the two losses and results across the division, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Mississippi Brilla FC are running away with the division, and if MOBA want to get themselves back into the race, it will require an immediate turn around and some immediate success. Thankfully, Peachtree City have back-to-back home fixtures against the perfect team. A common theme throughout Peachtree City's most recent loss to the Tri-Cities Otters was disorganization.
