College Update: Wins Keep Coming in Season's Final Weeks

Heading into late October, crunch time is officially underway. Only a couple of matches remain in the regular season, and wins have never been more important. Across the country, players are prepping for one last push before the post-season, and the closer it gets, the higher the stakes become. Games are never easy, but MOBA players around the United States are making winning look like nothing.

Meyer Leads #9 Louisville on 6-Match Unbeaten Run

After fellow red-shirt freshman Jake Gelnovatch beat him for the starting job, head coach Ken Lolla called upon young Cardinal Will Meyer to take over between the posts for the first time in his career on September 26th against USF at home. Since then, there has been no looking back. Starting and playing the full ninety of the last six matches, Meyer has the Cardinals 4-0-2 in that stretch while conceding just one goal, a fifty-fourth minute equalizer in that first match against the Bulls. That gives Meyer an outstanding 0.15 goals against average, and he has not conceded in an unprecedented 531 minutes while recording nineteen total saves. During that stretch, the Cardinals faced off with two nationally ranked teams, knocking off #12 Duke away on September 30th, and drawing #4 UNC at home on October 13th, while finding themselves as high as #5 in the national rankings. With just two matches left on the schedule, Louisville sit behind only #2 Wake Forest in the ACC Atlantic Division, and with both matches coming against ACC teams, the Cardinals can put themselves in great position heading into the ACC Tournament.

Moore, Valenciano Continue Strong Form for #19 Dalton State

Regulars on the College Update, Dalton State Roadrunners Santiago Moore and Daniel Valenciano have both had stellar seasons. After a "slip in form" where Dalton State lost to NAIA #1 William Carey and #8 University of Mobile, the Roadrunners were back to their winning ways when they faced off with Bethel University on October 12th. After going down early to a Jerry Wiltsher goal, Valenciano leveled things at one just prior to halftime, before Jordan Man added two goals and Moore added one to go out in front 4-2. The Wildcats pulled one back in the seventy-first minute, but could not find the equalizer. The following Saturday, the Roadrunners met up with Martin Methodist in a 3-2 home win in which Moore scored his team-leading tenth goal of the campaign and Valenciano tallied his fifth assist. Following back-to-back strong outings, Moore was named the SSAC Offensive Player of the Week, alongside fellow Roadrunner Jordan Man who picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors. October 18th marked a third straight win as the Roadrunners defeated last-place Middle Georgia State, with Moore increasing his team-leading assist total to thirteen. Three matches remain in the regular season for Dalton State, and the Roadrunners are fully capable of making a strong post-season run.

Georgia State Remain Perfect in SBC Play

After a surprising loss at Jacksonsville on September 30th, the Georgia State Panthers are back up to 10-4 after a strong stretch of four straight wins. Kicking things off with a 4-1 home victory against UAB, head coach Brett Surrency and the Panthers finally got their fulfillment when they defeated Georgia Southern on October 7th following last year's 3-1 loss. The Panthers got win number nine on the year against Howard on October 14th, as Lukas Joyner scored his first goal of the season thirty-four seconds into the match, and Salomon Lorenzano notched an assist on Hannes Burmeister's fourtieth minute goal to put the Panthers up 2-0. The match would finish 3-0, as Frank Rosenwald added one to the mix. The following Tuesday, both Salomon Lorenzano and Javen Palmer tallied assists in Georgia State's 3-1 victory over UNC Asheville. With four matches remaining, the Panthers find themselves top of the Sun Belt, with three more conference matches to solidify that positioning.

2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. A team may work well together and share the ball, but there is always at least one player that truly stands out. And that player, more often than not, receives the Man of the Year award. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two. As a result of the two losses and results across the division, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Mississippi Brilla FC are running away with the division, and if MOBA want to get themselves back into the race, it will require an immediate turn around and some immediate success. Thankfully, Peachtree City have back-to-back home fixtures against the perfect team. A common theme throughout Peachtree City's most recent loss to the Tri-Cities Otters was disorganization.
