College Update: MOBA Players Shine in Conference Play

As the college season reaches its final games, any and all wins are becoming more and more important. With almost all matches coming in conference from now on, getting results late will be crucial in securing a high seed in the conference tournament. While almost all MOBA players have been in great form this season, a select group of players have been dominating conference play in almost every division.

Williams, Fidler Running Things for Reinhardt

Despite a rough start to the season, the Reinhardt Eagles, led by senior midfielder Jordan Williams and junior midfielder Todd Fidler, find themselves in prime position deep into conference play, sitting 7-0-1 in the AAC, including an active eight-match unbeaten streak. During this unprecedented run of success, Williams and Fidler have combined for ten goals, three from Williams and seven from Fidler, all coming in wins, with Fidler being honored with the AAC Player of the Week following a two-goal showing against Union away. They aren't the only ones contributing to the Eagles winning ways, as forward Connor Heydon has added six goals and four assists to the mix, and Todd's brother freshman Gus Fidler has added four goals of his own. With just three matches remaining, the Eagles find themselves ahead of nationally-ranked Truett McConnell in the AAC, and are heading into the AAC Tournament a clear favorite to win it all.

Duque, Crusaders Control Own Destiny

In one of the best seasons in school history, the Belmont Abbey Crusaders find themselves 8-2 on the year and 5-1 in conference, just half a game behind Limestone College in the Conference Carolinas standings. Belmont Abbey have earned each of their eight wins, as they have been able to accomplish something incredible: while averaging a very respectable three goals per game, the Crusaders have seen twelve different players get on the scoresheet, with six scoring three or more goals. At the top of the list remains #10 Geinner Duque, who has five goals on the year, including the first of four in the Crusaders' October 11th win at North Greenville. With five matches left in the regular season, including three at home, Duque and the Crusaders have full control of their destiny, as they host first place Limestone at home on October 21st.

Georgia State Back into Winning Form

After a somewhat shaky start that saw the Panthers beat #2 Wake Forest and lose to unranked Lipscomb, Georgia State finally seem to have found their footing lately, as they are 5-1 in their last six, including knocking off Georgia Southern in their Sun Belt opener. At the forefront of this strong form is the Panthers defense, which hosts 2016 #MOBAProud Man of the Year Salomon Lorenzano. Since September 16th, the back four has allowed just six goals, while the offense has recorded fifteen. While Lorenzano has done his job on defense, fellow MOBA player Javen Palmer tallied his first goal of the season on September 26th coming off the bench at College of Charleston, and goalkeeper Luke Oesterle saw his first action of the season as a late match substitute for starter Yannic Horn in Georgia State's 4-1 win against UAB on October 3rd. Up to 8-4 on the season with six matches left, the Panthers are fully capable of leapfrogging Georgia Southern for the top spot in the Sun Belt before the conference tournament kicks off on November 9th.

2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. A team may work well together and share the ball, but there is always at least one player that truly stands out. And that player, more often than not, receives the Man of the Year award. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two. As a result of the two losses and results across the division, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Mississippi Brilla FC are running away with the division, and if MOBA want to get themselves back into the race, it will require an immediate turn around and some immediate success.
