College Update: MOBA Players Get Off to Hot Start

With the first few college matches in the books, teams are beginning to find out if all of those off-season preparations have paid off. Getting off to a good start is important, but a loss or two early isn't the end of the world so long as it doesn't become a habit. All across the United States and Canada, PDL players are making their marks on the 2017 season, and Peachtree City MOBA players have been no different, a few of which have led their squads to glory in the opening two weeks.

James Thomas Leads Young Harris Early

Up in the mountains of north Georgia, the Mountain Lions of Young Harris College put on a good show on opening day. Taking on Eckerd at home, things got off to a good start as Seba Andreassen put in the opening goal for Young Harris in the twenty-first minute. Already up 1-0, Andreassen made his presence felt again as he recorded the assist on Marco Micaletto's far post goal right before halftime, and the Lions went into the break up two. With a large obstacle to overcome, the Tritons picked up the pressure in the second half, but the Young Harris backline led by sophomore James Thomas, who was a first choice right back for MOBA last season, stood tall in the defensive third, keeping Eckerd out of the net despite taking seven shots in the period. The defense for Young Harris will be crucial going forward, with Thomas expected to be an everyday starter for head coach Mark McKeever. Sitting 1-0-0 after one, the Mountain Lions face their next test September 2nd when they host Southern Wesleyan.

Brezovsky and the Flyers Split Opening Three

Reigning #MOBAProud Man of the Year Michael Brezovsky was a leader of the back four for Peachtree City last season, and his role at Dayton has been no different. Starting and playing every minute in all three of their opening matches, the Flyers went an even .500 at 1-1-1 with an opening day draw against former MOBA defender Nick Spielman and East Tennessee State before dropping their first road match of the year against IPFW in Fort Wayne 2-1. The Flyers resilience shined through, however, as they returned home to put four past Western Illinois while limiting the Leathernecks to just seven shots in ninety minutes. Brezovsky has been key to Dayton's early success, as the Flyers' #18 has captained a defense that has limited opponents to four goals on thirty-one shots, while the Dayton offense has done the job scoring six goals on forty shots. Things look good for the Flyers going forward as they take on Belmont in Nashville on September 3rd before hosting the Dayton Tournament through September 10th.

Santi and Valenciano Lead Hot Dalton State Attack

Coming off a rough offensive season for Peachtree City, bright spots Santiago Moore and Daniel Valenciano, who had a part in six of MOBA's fifteen goals last season, headed back to Dalton State in search of another double-digit win season following last year's 13-3-1 finish. Battling North Greenville in the opener, the Roadrunners put four past the Crusaders on the back of a clean sheet, with Moore and Valenciano both recording assists. The Roadrunners slipped up late in game two, however, as Moore and Sebastian Guzman both tallied goals, but a late run by Saint Thomas University resulted in a 3-2 victory in favor of the Bobcats. Bouncing back won't be easy, however, as they take on #12 Thomas University on September 3rd, but with offense scoring six in two matches, the Roadrunners just might be able to pull off the upset.

2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. A team may work well together and share the ball, but there is always at least one player that truly stands out. And that player, more often than not, receives the Man of the Year award. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two. As a result of the two losses and results across the division, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Mississippi Brilla FC are running away with the division, and if MOBA want to get themselves back into the race, it will require an immediate turn around and some immediate success. Thankfully, Peachtree City have back-to-back home fixtures against the perfect team. A common theme throughout Peachtree City's most recent loss to the Tri-Cities Otters was disorganization.
