Match Preview: MOBA-Pumas to Square Off in Pre-Season Finale

It is without question that every team wants to start their seasons off strong. Whether it's soccer, baseball, basketball, hockey, or any sport, teams use their pre-seasons to gear up and get into the feel of the year with the hope that they can win a few games and get themselves into form. Following last season's struggles, which started off in the pre-season, MOBA wanted to get out to a strong start, and with two of the three matches in the books, they have done just that. Playing two friendlies against Georgia Revolution FC, Peachtree City swept the series by an aggregate score of 10-1, with five different players finding the back of the net in Santiago Moore (2), Todd Fidler (2), Khallil Stewart (1), Ryan King (2), and Tomide Adabale (3). Movies could not write a better start for the yellow and black, however they have one more match to play before the new campaign, and it features a notably strong opponent that looks to spoil the party.

The Pumas, out of East Point, are a Hispanic team playing in Liga MAGG, an adult league in the Atlanta area. The Pumas have a rich, successful history that has seen them win several Georgia Adult State Championships, and solidify their position as one of the best teams in their division. Coming off an outstanding 7-1 win, MOBA will definitely need to respect their opponent, and come out with the same fire that has put them on top before. MOBA's last match saw them dominate Georgia Revolution in what was expected to be a fairly even game. Peachtree City came out hot and stayed hot for the full ninety minutes, something they have done extremely well in both friendlies. Ryan King and Tomide Adabale recorded five of MOBA's seven goals, as King recorded a brace, and Adabale grabbed three for a hat trick, all of which were in the second half. The Revs just seemed to be incapable of getting a foothold in the game, something that plagued them in the previous matchup. With the victory on Wednesday, MOBA took the lead in the all-time series against the Revs with two wins to their one and zero ties. Heading into Saturday's match, Peachtree City will look to carry their momentum and complete the team's first ever perfect pre-season. That may not be easy, however, as the Pumas look to show they are team that cannot be walked on despite playing in the lower division.

Keys to Victory

  • Keep Up the Pace: Fast attacks and heavy pressure are what secured the previous victories against the Revs, and that is exactly what will need to continue. A different team means a different type of play, however if you can make the Pumas play your game at your pace, not theirs, then the away side should be on the back foot the full ninety minutes.
  • Play the Whole Pitch: The Pumas play a Hispanic type of football that calls for continuous passing and attempting to find gaps in the defense to play the ball through. Despite being slow-paced, this play style has the potential to be dangerous, however if you defend the full length of the pitch and keep your form, you should be able to win the ball back and get on the offensive.
Saturday's match kicks off at 7:30 PM at MOBA Soccer Academy, and once again, admission will be free. The 2017 PDL regular season starts next week for Peachtree City, so this match will be crucial for the confidence and form of the team going forward. Come out and support your hometown Peachtree City MOBA in their quest for the PDL Cup!
