One More Year: Welcoming Back MOBA's 2017 Re-signees - Salomon Lorenzano

2016 brought some incredible talent through Peachtree City, from Omar Jarun to Casey Shultis to Jessey Hein, and this 2017 season is expected to be even better, however the best way to make a team that can compete for a title is to mix experience in with new players. With the re-signing of Adam Sheikali and the addition of Michael Brezovsky earlier this month, MOBA took the first step in that process, and now they have added even more strength to their back line and midfield by bringing back a face that truly built a wealth of support here last season.

Salomon Lorenzano - Georgia State University

Lorenzano really established himself as a player fans could get behind last year with Peachtree City. Playing in every match for MOBA in 2016, Salomon led the team in minutes and was truly a pest to opposing strikers as he put up a wall on the defensive end. Offensively, Lorenzano played a key role in switching the field and getting Peachtree City on the front foot for Jordan Davis, starting the charge on a number of scoring chances including the game winner at Tormenta FC. This season is sure to be no different as Salomon looks to follow up his 2016 MOBA Proud Man of the Year campaign with another outstanding year.

Salomon did not get his start with MOBA, however, as he really took off in Peachtree City soccer with the McIntosh Chiefs team during the 2012 season. The Chiefs made it to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs, falling to Lambert 3-0, and Salomon was at the forefront. Following the season, he was awarded the 2012 Fayette County Player of the Year award, and he was the MVP of the Georgia Soccer Coaches Association All-Star Game. During the 2013 season, Lorenzano played in every game for the Chiefs and scored twenty-three goals along with twenty-eight assists as he led the team to a 23-0 season, knocking off Houston County 2-0 to win the state championship. Salomon was announced as the 2013 Class AAAAA Player of the Year and was the 2013 Gatorade Georgia Boy's Soccer Player of the Year.

Salomon went on to play college soccer at Georgia State University, where he was a key member of the Panthers squad during the 2016 season, playing in twenty games and accumulating 1400 minutes. Lorenzano also got himself on the record book, as he managed to scored one goal and record an assist as a defender for Georgia State. Salomon will surely be a leader of the team heading into his final year of eligibility, and then look to set his sights on the pros.

Look for MOBA to utilize Lorenzano's size and strength on the back line alongside Sheikali and Brezovksy, as head coach Volker Harms looks to solve last year's defensive issues. Any new talent that joins Salomon, Adam, and Michael in the back will benefit from having teamates with PDL experience and successful college careers.

2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. A team may work well together and share the ball, but there is always at least one player that truly stands out. And that player, more often than not, receives the Man of the Year award. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two.
