One More Year: Welcoming Back MOBA's 2017 Re-signees - Adam Sheikali

There are few better feelings than when your team resigns one of their key players from a season ago. The fans know what to expect, the coaches know what to expect, and most importantly, the players know what to expect. Re-signings mean that players and teammates get consistency with who they play with, who they play for, and where they play. The players get a chance to develop a relationship with the fans, and the fans get a chance to develop a relationship with the players. Now, Peachtree City gets their first chance to learn what that feels like, as MOBA has announced they have resigned defender Adam Sheikali.

Adam Sheikali - Boston University

Sheikali, now a junior at Boston University, is entering his second year with Peachtree City MOBA, as the local soccer star gets a chance to stay at home. A native of Peachtree City, Adam attended McIntosh High School, where he captained the Chiefs during his junior and senior seasons. During his senior season, Sheikali tallied eighteen goals and fifteen assists, numbers that solidified his role as a leader on the team and earned him the 2014 Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year award, a year after his MOBA and McIntosh teammate Salomon Lorenzano earned the same award, as well as Region IV Player of the Year and two All-State First Team selections. The McIntosh men's team had an incredible run during Adam's tenure, as they won 45 straight games and back-to-back Class AAAAA state titles. Sheikali scored twice in the team's second state championship, as the team finished the season ranked #1 in the nation. Adam currently holds the McIntosh school record for career games played.

During his three seasons with the Boston Terriers, Adam has been a key part of the team's success, as the Terriers have won 32 games over the last three seasons with Sheikali, as opposed to 23 without him. The defender helped guide the team to a 12-6-2 overall record in 2015, including seven shutouts, as Boston qualified for the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2008. Boston accumulated a further seven shutouts in 2016, including road wins at Lehigh and Holy Cross.

As a member of Peachtree City MOBA in 2016, Sheikali was one of the squad's best players. A rock on the defensive end, he played a crucial part in holding Tormenta FC at bay as MOBA knocked off their in-state rivals 1-0 on the road in their first ever meeting. Playing in thirteen games for Peachtree City, Sheikali was second on the team in minutes at 993, doing his part for the team when called upon. No doubt one of head coach Jordan Davis' go to men of 2016, look for MOBA's new head coach to use Sheikali to cement the back line and keep the ball out of the net in 2017. Adam was a fan favorite in Peachtree City, as his contagious smile and energy boosted the mood of the men on the pitch and the people in the stands, and there is no question he will bring that energy right back this season as Peachtree City looks for a successful 2017.

2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. A team may work well together and share the ball, but there is always at least one player that truly stands out. And that player, more often than not, receives the Man of the Year award. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two.
