Top 3 MOBA Players to Watch this College Season

With a new champion crowned, another PDL season is in the books. Things did not go to plan, to say the least, for Peachtree City MOBA during 2017, but that's old news. Now, the focus shifts to the collegiate pitch, where MOBA talents from coast to coast prep to face a new season of college soccer. Each year brings with it new opponents, new challenges, and the same ultimate goal: winning a championship. While every collegiate player on the MOBA roster has the ability to lead their school to that goal, here are three players to keep a close eye on during the upcoming year.

Edmundo Robinson - Junior - Queens University of Charlotte Royals

Leading MOBA in scoring with four goals in nine matches last season, forward Edmundo Robinson heads to Charlotte to join up with the Royals for a third campaign. Under the leadership of head coach Oliver Carias, Robinson has seen decent success during his two seasons, scoring five goals and recording an assist in twenty-seven matches, including two game-winning goals against North Georgia and Lincoln Memorial last season. With the departure of last year's leading scoring Ryan Ejezie, Robinson is expected to be at the front of the pack come August 31st, when the Royals take on Ryan King and the Clayton State Lakers. That match kicks off four straight home matches to open the season before the Royals head to Wingate to open SAC play. Last season's 6-8-1 finish is still fresh in everybody's mind, and redemption will be right at the forefront of the game plan.

Michael Brezovsky - Senior - Dayton Flyers

The reigning #MOBAProud Man of the Year has had a lot to say about the Flyers' success over the last few seasons, and entering his final year of eligibility, Brezovsky is expected to be a first option for coach Dennis Currier. The Flyers looked a decent side during their two exhibitions, drawing with Bowling Green on August 12th 1-1 and falling 5-3 to Milwaukee on August 19th. Brezovsky got the start in Milwaukee as the Flyers put three past keeper Greg Baxa in a final twenty minute push to claw back from a five-goal deficit that fell just two goals short. The Flyers start the regular season at home against East Tennessee, who are back at full strength after losing former MOBA defender Nick Spielman for the entire season to a knee injury. Four games in, the Flyers host the Dayton Tournament with Fort Wayne, Liberty, and Central Arkansas before kicking off A-10 play on September 30th against Davidson. Provided he stays healthy, Brezovsky should see a bulk of the minutes throughout the season, leading the team on a mission to qualify for the NCAA tournament after missing the cut last season. Following this year, Brezovsky's future will be up in the air, with the potential to join the professional ranks very much a possibility.

Adam Sheikali - Senior - Boston Terriers

Coming off a second quality PDL season for Peachtree City, McIntosh graduate Adam Sheikali finds himself as a top option for the fourth straight year. A Gatorade Player of the Year coming out of high school, Sheikali found a home for himself with the Terriers, making an immediate impact in his freshman season, starting nine matches as Boston went 12-4-4 on the season. Coming off their worst season since 2013, finishing 8-6-3 and getting knocked out of the Patriot League Championships in the first round, Sheikali and the Terriers will be desperate for some immediate success. Starting the season with Rhode Island away and Boston College at home, the Terriers will need to get off to a strong start if they hope to make it through a tough stretch of road matches at the end the regular season, including Army on October 25th followed by Bucknell on October 28th. Following this season, Sheikali also finds himself with the ability to turn pro, with USL, NASL, and possibly even MLS potential fits for the defender.

The MOBA roster was full of great talent, so obviously these three are not the only three will the potential to be great this collegiate season. 2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. A team may work well together and share the ball, but there is always at least one player that truly stands out. And that player, more often than not, receives the Man of the Year award. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two. As a result of the two losses and results across the division, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Mississippi Brilla FC are running away with the division, and if MOBA want to get themselves back into the race, it will require an immediate turn around and some immediate success.
