2016 MOBA Proud Collegiate MVP Award

After an exciting two and a half months of college soccer, the regular season finally comes to a close. The season was full of drama, excitement, outstanding showings, and tremendous heartbreak, but that's all out the window now, as the best of the best go head to head looking to grab the trophy of their respective conferences. However, that does not stop us from remembering some of the best performances of the brief college soccer season.

In a similar fashion to the end of the PDL season, the one-man panel here at MOBA Proud would like to recognize one player from the 2016 MOBA roster that went above and beyond this collegiate season, putting up outstanding offensive numbers and leading his team to a remarkable regular season. Many of the MOBA players had phenomenal years, including midfielder Ryan King and forward Iain Smith. The captains of the Clayton State Lakers soccer team were both named to the All-Peach Belt Conference second team, the first time both players have been selected to the team. Their performances were backed up by fellow MOBA player Bilal Nakhli, who notched four goals and four assists in sixteen starts. Over in Waleska, Georgia, breakout MOBA star Todd Fidler, who grabbed two goals in his first appearance with Peachtree City, finished his season at Reinhardt University with three goals and two assists, helping lead the team to an 11-5-1 record and a spot in the AAC championship game. Jessey Hein also finished his season with a total of three goals and two assists in 15 games, as BYU-Hawai'i plays their final regular season game before the program is discontinued Saturday, November 5th, at Dominican University of California. Despite the excellence that all these players exhibited, there was one player whose performance stood out above the rest, and you can find him two hours east of Peachtree City at a school that doesn't normally get much love.

Taku Mashingaidze, the quick-footed sophomore out of Essex, England, showed his capabilities at Georgia Military College as a captain of the Bulldogs squad. Starting in fifteen games for head coach Dave Sexton, Taku showed that he was a force to be reckoned with in the NJCAA, accumulating nine goals on 50% shooting, ranking him third on the team. Not only was he prolific in his scoring ability, but he was the best on the team at sharing the ball, picking up fifteen assists, including a four assist showing against Oxford College of Emory University on September 27, tying him with Jack Arra for
the team lead. Mashingaidze had a total of 33 points on the year, ranking him second on the team, and he took and converted the only penalty kick opportunity the Bulldogs had in 2016. Taku's incredible season helped lead the team to a 12-4 record, enough to qualify as the #4 seed for the Southeast District Championship tournament at Daytona State College. GMC would fall to #1 seed Daytona State, 7-0, however that does not overshadow the outstanding regular season that Mashingaidze achieved.

Soccer is all about individual and team success. Helping lead your team to victory is the overall goal for every player, and Taku did just that. One of the most dominant teams in the conference, Mashingaidze was the epitome of everything that a captain should be: an outstanding player who is always looking to get everybody involved, and Taku's number show that. The city of Peachtree City would like to congratulate Taku Mashingaidze on an incredible 2016 collegiate season, as he is named the 2016 MOBA Proud Collegiate MVP. We cannot wait to see what the future has for Taku, and hope part of that future involves taking part in the 2017 PDL season as Peachtree City MOBA looks to capture a division title and qualify for the PDL playoffs and U.S. Open Cup for the first time in team history.

2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. A team may work well together and share the ball, but there is always at least one player that truly stands out. And that player, more often than not, receives the Man of the Year award. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two. As a result of the two losses and results across the division, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Mississippi Brilla FC are running away with the division, and if MOBA want to get themselves back into the race, it will require an immediate turn around and some immediate success.
