In just four days, history will be made at MOBA Soccer Academy as manager Campbell Chapman leads the Peachtree City MOBA WPSL side into their inaugural season. Following the incredible success of the youth club and growth of the PDL side, the MOBA women's team will cap off the pyramid of development that owner Volker Harms has looked to create in Peachtree City. The Women's Premier Soccer League is the largest women's league in the United States, fielding over 100 clubs across the country and in Canada. Ahead of their inaugural season, a number of great signings have been made of well-developed, talented athletes from across the country that are looking to make an immediate impact out on the pitch. Defenders, as difficult and demanding as the position is, never get much recognition in the grand scope of things. Defenders don't tend to win MVP awards or Player of the Year, which is a large part of the reason for awards like Defender of the Year: to recognize great defensive talent that would otherwise go unnoticed. Emma Carlson - Defender - Duke University A native of Lilburn, Georgia, defender Emma Carlson attended Parkview High School where she played as a midfielder, and needless to say, she was phenomenal. As a freshman, Carlson came out of the gates sprinting, scoring twenty-seven goals to go along with five assists on the season en route to a 20-3-1 record and a Georgia AAAAAA State Championship, and she was just getting started. Some of the world's greatest footballers are goalkeepers, most notably the likes of Gianluigi Buffon, Hope Solo, and David de Gea. An announcement that slid under the radar back in March, MOBA Soccer Academy unveiled plans to enter the Women's Premier Soccer League as an expansion club in 2018. The top amateur women's league in the country, the MOBA WPSL team rounds out the structure of the MOBA development pyramid, as players can enter the youth academy and build their talent before moving on to either the PDL or WPSL during their college careers. It is without question that soccer in the United States is booming with every passing second. With the expansion of MLS to twenty-two teams, the promotion of USL to second tier, and the growth of the PDL, soccer is truly putting a foothold in the U.S., but that is not restricted to just men's soccer. Women's soccer has seen significant growth over the last decade, as the U.S. Women's National Team took home the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup title with a decisive 5-2 victory over Japan that was a long time coming. The National Women's Soccer League, created in 2012, has also seen a growth  in popularity since its founding, with overall attendance growing almost 200,000 since their inaugural season in 2013.
