MOBA Appoint Former Northern Irish International Campbell Chapman as WPSL Head Coach

An announcement that slid under the radar back in March, MOBA Soccer Academy unveiled plans to enter the Women's Premier Soccer League as an expansion club in 2018. The top amateur women's league in the country, the MOBA WPSL team rounds out the structure of the MOBA development pyramid, as players can enter the youth academy and build their talent before moving on to either the PDL or WPSL during their college careers. Plans have been in the works for months to get things in order, and the first step has now been taken toward the construction of a team, as MOBA announced on Tuesday that former Northern Irish international Campbell Chapman would become the club's first ever head coach.

Born in Sutton in Ashfield, England in 1963 to Mansfield Town star Sammy Chapman, Campbell Chapman enjoyed a very decorated ten-year professional career at clubs such as Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Bromwich Albion, IFK Ostersund, Kaskinen IK, Birkakara FC, and Al Ahli SC. During his tenure, Chapman played alongside a number of footballing greats including English National Team Captain David Platt, Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman, and Northern Ireland star and current North Carolina FC head coach Colin Clarke.

Following his retirement from professional football, Chapman made the leap across the pond to pursue a coaching career in the United States. Joining the Gwinnett Soccer Academy as Director of Coaching, Chapman's philosophy of coaching centers around the idea of player development; every player should be taught proper technique, taking most of their learning from the game itself. Chapman holds an English FA Prelim Coaching Certificate, as well as a USSAF A License. Chapman has vast women's coaching experience having previously been an assistant coach with the Atlanta Silverbacks women's side, as well as coaching numerous state women's clubs that have gone on to win a number of championships. Chapman has also coached a number of international players, including Brazilian Jennifer Westendorph, American Ella Stevens, and Honduran Elexa Bahr.

About the WPSL

The number one amateur women's league in North America, the Women's Premier Soccer League has seen incredible growth since its founding in 1997, as the playing field has grown to over 100 teams in the United States and Canada. Notable former WPSL players include U.S. Internationals Morgan Brian, Cori Alexander, and Sarah Hagen, as well as Australian International Leah Blayney. 2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two.
