Peachtree City Sign Furman Defender Abby Ott

With the outstanding growth that MOBA Soccer Academy has seen over the last two years, it only seems fitting that the Women's Premier Soccer League would find its way to the suburbs to cap off the development pyramid at the academy. The WPSL is the top women's pre-professional league in the country, fielding over 100 teams across the US and Canada. With 2018 marking MOBA's first season in the league, manager Campbell Chapman will be looking to get off to a running start, and the club's first signing looks prime to lay the foundation.

Abby Ott - Defender - Furman University

A Peachtree City native, defender Abby Ott grew up in one of the best youth systems in the country. Playing her youth soccer with Concorde Fire, Ott helped lead the U-18's to two first-place finishes in the ECNL under coach Brian Moore. Ott played her high school soccer for McIntosh, where she was voted team MVP after her junior and senior seasons. Abby captained the Chiefs to a AAAAA state title her senior year, scoring five goals along with four assists. Following the season, Ott was rated a four-star recruit by Top Drawer Soccer and was named to the Top Drawer Georgia All-Classification All-Star team. 

Following high school, Ott committed to Furman University where she featured prominently in much of the Paladins early success as a true freshman, recording an assist in Furman's 2-0 win against USC Upstate. Just as the season got going, however, Ott went down with a knee injury and picked up the red-shirt for the rest of the season. Making her return for the 2017 season, Ott made three starts in nine matches as the Paladins went 5-3-1, conceding just eight goals while scoring thirty. Furman made it to the SoCon semi-finals before falling to Western Carolina 2-0.

A very talented defender with a ton of potential, Ott is the perfect player to begin building the team with, as being able to kick things off with your hometown club in their inaugural season would motivate any player to give everything out on the pitch. Under coach Chapman, look for Ott to play a very active role on the back-line if she can stay healthy, as her defensive prowess has already shown itself both in high school and college. As she continues her college career, Ott finds herself in a prime position to refine her skills and potentially find herself in the NWSL when it is all said and done, with MOBA being the perfect launching pad.

PDL and WPSL Tickets On Sale NOW

With the pre-professional season kicking off in just under two months, tickets for the MOBA PDL and WPSL teams are on sale now. The PDL season consists of fourteen matches between May and July, seven home and seven away, with the season opener on May 12th at home against in-state rivals South Georgia Tormenta FC. The WPSL season consists of eight matches during the same time frame, four home and four away, with the season opener on May 20th away against Nashville Rhythm. Tickets for PDL matches are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for youth between 13-18. Tickets for WPSL matches are $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for youth between 13-18. Children under 13 get in free. Season Passes are available for $50.00 for PDL and $20.00 for WPSL. Tickets are available online at MOBASoccer.com/tickets.

2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. A team may work well together and share the ball, but there is always at least one player that truly stands out. And that player, more often than not, receives the Man of the Year award. Match Preview: MOBA-Brilla Battle in Peachtree City

Peachtree City need to keep winning. It is as simple as that. If MOBA can keep getting three points every time out for the rest of the season, they will be sitting on twenty-seven points, which could see them into the playoffs. That task, however, will meet its first real test on Thursday, when Peachtree City welcome a red-hot Mississippi Brilla FC side into the suburbs. With back-to-back matches against the last place team in the division last week, Peachtree City were not able to capitalize completely on the opportunity they had before them, but they did get some important results nonetheless. After conceding a goal to Memphis that nullified John Cozine opener, MOBA came right back and grabbed another late in the first half, this time from Morgan Hackworth, and the Yellow and Black were able to hold on for the 2-1 win.
