Match Preview: MOBA, Tri-Cities Clash in Peachtree City

As has been said for many years, there is no place like home. For Peachtree City, they need that to ring true over their final four home matches if they hope to dig themselves out of a shallow hole at the bottom of the table. It won't take much to pull MOBA back toward the middle of the table, and a victory against Tri-Cities would be just what they need to get started.

After finally getting their first victory of the season on the road against Nashville SC in a 3-2 thriller, Peachtree City went into Irmo, South Carolina with the hopes of getting a second against a desperate SC United side. Hopes don't always equal wins, however, as SC United's Bradlee Baladez scored in the seventeenth minute and MOBA could never find their equalizer in a match that epitomized MOBA's early season goal-scoring troubles. Having lost to the Bantams for the third time in club history, Peachtree City will be looking to finally get their name in the win column of the series on the final day on the season as they host the Bantams at MOBA Soccer Academy, but that is a long way off and the last thing on MOBA's mind. Going forward, the yellow and black will be looking to finally find resurgence against a Tri-Cities side that has beaten them twice in two meetings. While things may not look great for MOBA, there is hope, as every game that has been played between these two teams has ended with one side on top by just one goal, and three of the four have been in Johnson City. This time around, MOBA will be looking to defend their home turf for the second time, as they beat the Otters in Peachtree City last year thanks to Jessey Hein's miracle goal late in second half stoppage time.

The Otters have been a less than spectacular team during the 2017 season, but they have been miles ahead of where they were last year. Were it not for Peachtree City, however, it is a much different story. Sitting at 2-4-2 and eighth on the division table as opposed to 1-10-3 and last in the division a year ago, the Otters season would not look quite as good without MOBA on the schedule. Take away the Otters two victories at home against MOBA, and you find Tri-Cities winless and at the bottom of the table with just two points. The Otters have not been an outstanding team during 2017, especially against teams other than MOBA, and they will no doubt be hungry to feast against the only team they have all season.

Keys to Victory

  • Get Two Up: The Otters have not been a team that can come back from deficits, and MOBA will need to take advantage of that. If Peachtree City can put some space between the Otters and them, it will make it far easier to hold off any late attacks. If not, you risk some late game heroics that doomed Peachtree City against SC United a few weeks ago.
  • Play Together: A big part of the reason MOBA were able to steal victory in Nashville a week ago was because of the way Peachtree City played together. It seemed like every MOBA player was tuned in and fighting for the man next to him, and that equated to goals. If MOBA can just get back to that, they will no doubt have a strong say in who wins against a disgruntled Tri-Cities side.

2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two. As a result of the two losses and results across the division, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Mississippi Brilla FC are running away with the division, and if MOBA want to get themselves back into the race, it will require an immediate turn around and some immediate success.
