Match Preview: MOBA Look to Stay on Track Against Brilla FC

Despite a very slow start to the season for Peachtree City, things are finally beginning to come together in the second half of the campaign. After going 0-6-1 in their first seven matches while only scoring six goals, MOBA are now 2-1-0 in their last three with victories on the road against Nashville SC U23 on June 21st and at home against Tri-Cities Otters FC on June 27th, scoring five goals in the process. Things will not be easy going down the final stretch of the season, but Peachtree City find themselves in a great place to finish strong.

Facing an Otters team that beat them in both of their previous matchups, MOBA looked to finally get their revenge, and there was no better place than at home. Despite giving up a goal early on, Omar Jarun, who took over head coaching duties from owner Volker Harms, fired up his troops heading into the second half. With a potential equalizer looming large, Jarun made the executive decision to sub in midfielder Victor Forti, and in his second appearance of the year, Forti brought just what MOBA needed. Just three minutes after his substitution, Forti took a pass down the sideline and made a run at keeper Carlos Rubio, and upon reaching the six yard box, Forti crossed the ball beautifully across the field, and Todd Fidler made no mistake, taking a shot on his first touch that was too much for Rubio to stop. Ten minutes later, it was Edmundo Robinson who made things final. After beating his man near midfield, Robinson charged at Rubio all alone, and calmly touch it past the keeper toward the near post and scored. After a celebration that was reminiscent of Kenwyne Jones' act following his first goal for Atlanta United, MOBA closed out the ninety minutes strong and finally beat the Otters for the first time in 2017. Heading into the final four matches of the season, Peachtree City could not ask to be in a better position. With an opportunity to jump up three spots on the division table with a victory, only one thing stands in their way, and it happens to be one of the best teams in the Southern Conference.

After a sub-par season last year that saw them go 4-6-4 overall and miss the playoffs, Mississippi Brilla FC have soared back onto the scene, boasting a 6-2-2 record on the back of the sixth-best defense in the league. Allowing just seven goals in ten matches, Brilla have been nearly unbreakable, recording six clean sheets. Despite not scoring a lot of goals, Mississippi continue to find a way to win, and one of their six wins came against MOBA earlier in the season, as Brilla defeated MOBA 2-0 in Peachtree City. Weather playing a fair role in the outcome of that match with rain coming down the whole night, MOBA will be looking for retribution against the boys in blue, but that will not be easy, as MOBA are yet to record a victory against Brilla, with their all-time record sitting at 0-2-1. Brilla have shown vulnerability, however, as one of their losses came against FC Cleburne, who sit in last place in the Mid South Division. No matter the case, a result will not come easily in Clinton, and it will take the effort of all eleven men to steal some points.

Keys to Victory

  • Attack, Attack, Attack: This Mississippi Brilla FC side are one of the best defensive teams in the league, and if there is not a continuous attack going, the back line will be more than enough to keep the MOBA attack away from the net. Defending will be crucial, but good defense means nothing if you cannot score.
  • Keep it Clean: Early goals have been the downfall of MOBA all season long, and that cannot be the case in Clinton. No matter who starts in goal, whether it be Oesterle, Nelson, Meyer, or Hudson, it will be essential to keep the clean sheet as long as possible to give your offense time to get the lead.
Matches against Brilla have always been one to watch, and Saturday's match is not expected to be any different. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 PM, and a livestream will be available via Mississippi Brilla FC. If MOBA can get any points in Mississippi, it will be a win, as they will be able to pull themselves off the bottom of the table, but a victory would be huge going forward. After Saturday, MOBA are back at home for the final stretch of the season, as they close with three straight home matches against South Georgia on July 3rd and 8th, and then SC United in the season finale on July 15th. 2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. Match Preview: Peachtree City Open Second Half of Season Against Memphis

After such a promising start to the year that saw MOBA open 2-1-2 and reach the top of the table, back-to-back 2-0 away losses have sparked some fear that this season may degrade into a carbon copy of the previous two. As a result of the two losses and results across the division, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Mississippi Brilla FC are running away with the division, and if MOBA want to get themselves back into the race, it will require an immediate turn around and some immediate success.
