Match Recap: Peachtree City Extend Unbeaten Streak to Three Matches

Image
It wasn't the result anybody really wanted, nor what the team needed, and it certainly makes things more difficult going forward, but it was a bit historic nonetheless. Coming off a win and a draw against Memphis City FC, MOBA really needed a win to keep playoff aspirations in reach. A draw would not make the playoffs impossible, but it certainly was not going to help. Going up against Mississippi, however, was no easy task, as they rode a six-match unbeaten streak and four-match winning streak into the meeting, but Peachtree City were determined to get something from the game. Things got off to a dream start for MOBA in the rain, as just two minutes into the match, Rashid Alarape found John Cozine with a great ball inside the eighteen, and Cozine coolly buried the shot to give MOBA the lead on the fastest goal in club history. The Yellow and Black rode that momentum for the remainder of the first half, and they very easily could have gotten a second goal at any point in...

Match Preview: MOBA-Brilla Battle in Peachtree City

Peachtree City need to keep winning. It is as simple as that. If MOBA can keep getting three points every time out for the rest of the season, they will be sitting on twenty-seven points, which could see them into the playoffs. That task, however, will meet its first real test on Thursday, when Peachtree City welcome a red-hot Mississippi Brilla FC side into the suburbs. With back-to-back matches against the last place team in the division last week, Peachtree City were not able to capitalize completely on the opportunity they had before them, but they did get some important results nonetheless. After conceding a goal to Memphis that nullified John Cozine opener, MOBA came right back and grabbed another late in the first half, this time from Morgan Hackworth, and the Yellow and Black were able to hold on for the 2-1 win. Two days later, the sides met again, and after a scoreless first half, Dean Foster and Peyton McKnatt traded second half goals as the two teams split the points...

Match Recap: Fidler Equalizes in Stoppage Time, MOBA Steal a Point in Clinton

Image
Any chance the Avenue has room for a statue of Todd Fidler? Going into Saturday's matchup with Mississippi Brilla FC, MOBA found themselves on a high after winning two of their last three matches in dramatic fashion. Goals were finally beginning to come for the MOBA offense, and the defense was doing just enough to keep the opposition at bay. Facing a Brilla team that average 0.78 goals allowed per game would, however, be a tough draw for any team, but MOBA had the confidence they needed to get a result. Following an hour long weather delay, the match could not have started off any worse for MOBA, as Andre DeGiorgi put the home side up almost immediately with a brilliant goal in the opening five minutes. Things calmed down offensively afterwards, but Brilla were still dominating possession and chances in the early going. Any opportunities that MOBA found themselves with were broken up, and all the pressure was on the defense to keep things within arms reach. MOBA's firs...

Match Preview: MOBA Look to Stay on Track Against Brilla FC

Image
Despite a very slow start to the season for Peachtree City, things are finally beginning to come together in the second half of the campaign. After going 0-6-1 in their first seven matches while only scoring six goals, MOBA are now 2-1-0 in their last three with victories on the road against Nashville SC U23 on June 21st and at home against Tri-Cities Otters FC on June 27th, scoring five goals in the process. Things will not be easy going down the final stretch of the season, but Peachtree City find themselves in a great place to finish strong. Facing an Otters team that beat them in both of their previous matchups, MOBA looked to finally get their revenge, and there was no better place than at home. Despite giving up a goal early on, Omar Jarun, who took over head coaching duties from owner Volker Harms, fired up his troops heading into the second half. With a potential equalizer looming large, Jarun made the executive decision to sub in midfielder Victor Forti, and in...

Match Recap: MOBA Falls in Home Opener to Mississippi Brilla FC 2-0

Sometimes, it just really is not your day. Heading into Saturday's game against Mississippi Brilla FC, MOBA had to have felt good after getting a draw against rivals Tormenta FC. All they had to was play with the same energy and fire that they played with in the second half of that game, however having played that game just two days prior, energy had to be at a low for the MOBA squad. Forced to make a few lineup changes due to fatigue, head coach Volker Harms hoped that that would be enough to grab three points at home. It goes without saying that rain always has something to say about the outcome of a game no matter the sport. The victor more than likely will be the team that can handle the slickness and speed with which the ball moves across the pitch, and they must accustom their playstyle to those factors. With heavy rains coming down prior to the game, and right after halftime, both MOBA and Brilla had to change their games, but it just worked out better for Missis...

Match Preview: Inter-Conference Foes MOBA, Brilla FC Battle in Peachtree City Home Opener

Image
Some of the best games in sports history feature two teams from different divisions and conferences going head to head. Falcons and Patriots in Super Bowl LI (it still hurts). Warriors and Cavs in game 7 of the NBA Finals. Seattle Sounders and Toronto FC in the 2016 MLS Cup Final. Sometimes geographic distance proves to be great for some teams, as the separation between two clubs allows for a clash of cultures in what can be a historic matchup. During MOBA's inaugural campaign, Peachtree City met Mississippi Brilla FC twice, once in the season opener and again on match day twelve. The series proved to be an exciting one, as Peachtree City  and Mississippi proved to be worthy adversaries early on. MOBA's Alex Rotoloni scored the first goal in the opener, but Brilla struck back with two goals late to propel the home side to victory. In Peachtree City, it was Casey Shultis who found the net beautifully in the twenty-seventh minute before Newton Henry struck back right befor...
