College Update: MOBA Players in Winning Form Across Georgia

All across the United States, college players are beginning to find their footing as we make our way into mid-season. After four weeks, things are beginning to get interesting, as many schools begin conference play, and the stakes get higher. Right here in the state of Georgia, MOBA players are making their presence felt, and the effects are continuing to show on the score sheet.

Thomas, Young Harris Dominating Mid-Season

After starting off the year with back-to-back home victories, the Mountain Lions saw a bit of slippage in matches three and four as they drew Tusculum at home and lost to #24 Lincoln Memorial away. That loss of form cost Young Harris there spot in the top 25, but since then, the Lions have been on a tear. Staring down a four-game home stretch, they knew that they needed to use it to the best of their advantage, and that is exactly what they did. Through three of those four games, the Mountain Lions are 3-0-0, scoring seven goals in that stretch. It isn't just the offense that has been in great form, however, as the defense, thanks in part to the efforts of 2017 MOBA defender James Thomas who recorded his first assist of the year in Young Harris' 3-0 victory over Flagler on September 16th, allowed just one goal in that stretch. Sitting at 5-1-1 halfway through the year, the Mountain Lions find themselves sitting just outside the top 25, and, with a number of important conference games coming up, can push themselves back into the best of the NCAA Division II.

Reinhardt Eagles Back to Winning Ways

After having completed the 8-3 rout of Brescia on September 2nd, the Eagles met shock when Life University won 2-1 in Waleska. Having their September 10th match against Thomas University postponed due to Hurricane Irma, the Eagles had a week to prepare for their meeting with Milligan, and they took full advantage. Coming in with something to prove, Reinhardt started out running, with Jordan Williams and Connor Heydon recording first half goals. The Eagles added another in the second, as Aaron Whitten buried his second of the season, and Reinhardt ran away with a 3-1 win. Five days later, the Eagles met an angry Bryan College team, and the Lions led 2-0 through eighty minutes, but Whitten and Gus Fidler, brother of MOBA player Todd Fidler, were able to pull off the shocking upset, as Whitten scored in the eighty-second, and Fidler scored in the eighty-eighth and overtime to shock Bryan 3-2. With mostly conference games remaining on the schedule, the next two weeks will be crucial in determining the outcome of the Eagles season.

Moore, #19 Dalton State Complete Comeback Against SCAD-Savannah

Coming off an incredible upset of #17 Bryan College, the Dalton State Roadrunners, led by leading scorer Santiago Moore, looked to continue their great run of form against a struggling SCAD team. The Roadrunners, who have been unbeatable at home this season, started off strong as Moore buried his fifth goal of the season on forty-two minutes. With Dalton State seemingly in control, the Bees came out swarming in the second half, putting two past Samuel Fraire to lead 2-1 after eighty. Not knowing what had hit them, the Roadrunners desperately needed an equalizer, and it was Santiago Moore once again who proved his value, finding Jordan Man just before the final whistle, and Man was able to draw level and send the match to overtime. In overtime for the third time in 2017, Dalton State knew exactly what to do, as Santiago Moore played hero once again, scoring the golden goal just moments after kickoff to thwart the upset bid from the Bees. Two days after the match, Moore was named as the NAIA Offensive Player of the Week. The Roadrunners now find themselves ranked #15 in the NAIA after the win, and things look promising going forward.

2016 MOBA Proud MOTY Award

PDL Playoffs kicked off today, thus marking the transition between regular and post season. Now that MOBA's 2016 season is complete, it is finally safe to begin handing out recognition and awards for excellence in the sport, and there is no better prize than receiving the title of 2016 Man of the Year (the association football equivalent of MVP). The sport of football is based around two principles: Pride and Teamwork. However, teamwork does not mean that nobody deserves recognition for outstanding play. A team may work well together and share the ball, but there is always at least one player that truly stands out. And that player, more often than not, receives the Man of the Year award. Match Preview: MOBA-Brilla Battle in Peachtree City

Peachtree City need to keep winning. It is as simple as that. If MOBA can keep getting three points every time out for the rest of the season, they will be sitting on twenty-seven points, which could see them into the playoffs. That task, however, will meet its first real test on Thursday, when Peachtree City welcome a red-hot Mississippi Brilla FC side into the suburbs. With back-to-back matches against the last place team in the division last week, Peachtree City were not able to capitalize completely on the opportunity they had before them, but they did get some important results nonetheless. After conceding a goal to Memphis that nullified John Cozine opener, MOBA came right back and grabbed another late in the first half, this time from Morgan Hackworth, and the Yellow and Black were able to hold on for the 2-1 win.
